Wow! Thanks for sharing the photos, especially the Akina and Toshi photo. Have to reveal a secret: I used to have such a soft spot for Toshi and kept wondering why Akina chose Matchy over him. ;-P
Thanks for that CJ. The only one I saw of them is one that they were dressed up to the nines dancing. I believe it was for a New Years special and Akina also did a ballet number. Have you seen that before? I believe it was during "Al-Mauj".
I agree with you on Matchy. The Chinese newspapers seem to spread rumours at that time that Toshi was interested in Akina too, but unfortunately, she only had eyes for Matchy. I guess the forbidden fruit is always much sweeter
Yes, I know the one you’re talking about–it actually aired around New Years, 1987. It was a skit called "Once Upon a Time in Japan."
It was included in a yearly show called "Kakushigei Taikai" that used to air around New Years (the 3 photos were all taken from it). It was a variety show in which idols and other celebrities appeared in skits and also were paired off in a "talent competition" of sorts.

You’re welcome, Jamez.
I think Toshi was definitely the more likable of the two. It always seemed to me that Matchy had a hard time getting past his own ego.
As for why Akina chose Matchy, who knows? All too frequently, people beat themselves up over the wrong types. Chalk it up as one of life’s mysteries.

Or, at least seems sweeter…
You’re welcome, Jamez.

Oh! I would love to watch it! Ranbi san, do you have it?
