‘90 BEST [3CD+DVD]<初回限定盤>

90best.pngthe mystery content of the DVD for the Limited Edition of ’90 BEST has been unveiled on Tower Records website! it’s the 1995 TRUE LIVE Concert in its entirety, plus 3 music videos – “Tokyo Rose”, “原始女は太陽だった”, and “Moonlight Shadow”. 3 music CDs + 1 DVD. total of 36 music tracks, one full concert recording, and 3 MVs. now we’re talking!

tracklisting seems very comprehensive and includes “セカンド・ラブ with 来生たかお” (that’s the previously unreleased track, ahem), “MOONLIGHT SHADOW-月に吠えろ Club Mix”, all tracks from mini album “VAMP”, and selected few more from “Spoon”.

Excellent. I sort of guessed that True Live would be included (thanks to Eugin I already have a copy of that concert that was recorded from TV) but where is “Ophelia”? It’s nowhere to be found on either editions (though its b-side “To Be” is included in the 3CD+DVD edition), even though it was a bigger hit than both “今夜、流れ星” and “とまどい”. Besides, I’m sure they could have fit more tracks on CD2 and CD3. I just hope that the album will have a kick-ass cover but then again, who are we kidding?

  2. Jerry says:

BTW, it says on the HMV Jp website that the full title of this compilation is “歌姫伝説-’90 Best”.

This is a concert that many have been waiting for. I used to have a VHS and loved it.

I think, personally, I will be excited more if the concert DVD is released as a stand alone with a art cover instead of a BONUS dvd.

I felt a little cheated and it’s not a good feeling to feel being manipulate by cheap marketing trick.

  4. JameZ says:

Yes, I agree with Jerry. I have not watched the concert in its entirety (only snippets from Youtube), and I wasn’t even aware it was previously telecast on TV. I am more excited about this DVD than anything she has added to her previous releases. Maybe someone from Faithway is actually reading all our grievances.

I wouldn’t put any high hopes on the cover-art. I won’t be surprised if it is a previously unreleased “art-work” from the 90′s, which she will say maintains the “theme” of the project. I am also surprised that “Ophelia” is not on the tracklist. I think it is just a mistake and it will be rectified. Unless they want to add that as a “bonus track” on the “normal version”. Now, that will be a real stinker for a marketing strategy.

I guess they are going to argue the “previously unreleased” and stretch that to “on any album”, and then Presto! they have truckloads of them.

  5. Danny says:

it’s strange that CD1 has 15 tracks, yet CD2 only has 9 tracks and CD3 has like 12? wherein lies the numbering logic? Ophelia shd be on it! let’s hope it’s a printing error. like the 2008 Calendar! HAHAHA.

  6. Patrick says:

JameZ – True Live is a fun concert with many FUN costume. We do have to remember that it was for 1995 so it might look a little dated today. The telecast was done on wowow, I’m sure. My VHS is no longer watchable. I know that there is a digital version in this internet world as well but I don’t have it.

  7. JameZ says:

You will once you buy Set A, Patrick.

I have seen some videos on youtube. I don’t like her short hairdo then. I will still buy it though.

  8. Danny says:

yah i feel she looks at least 5 years older with short hair.

  9. Patrick says:

    Jamez – What will I ?? I’m a little lost. :-)

Danny – I know what you mean but I must say ‘Tokyo Rose’ look is one of the of the last conceptual look and music from Akina. I thought the song is fantastic as well although it might not as popular sound as other songs. Moonlight Shadow sounds popular at its time but sounds dated so fast.

  10. Jerry says:

You will have the digital version once you buy Set A, Pat. I think that’s what James meant.

  11. Patrick says:

Jerry – Thanks. Excuse an old man like me who could not keep up with the conversation. :-)

  12. JameZ says:

Thanks Jerry for clarifying that. I guess I should have added a comma after “You will, once you …”. Sorry, Patrick. ;-)

I like Tokyo Rose, but I think marketing it under “Akina” instead of “中森明菜” was a bit of a mistake. Maybe she was hoping for a 「コーヒー.ルバー」 where 荻野目洋子 used the moniker “Yo-Co”, and was a big hit for her.

I just don’t like the short hairdo. It doesn’t suit her at all. Hasn’t she learned from her “Dear Friend” disastrous hairdo. I know that women cut their hair as a means of moving on from a failed relationship, but she should never perm it all the top to the top and after seeing her with all short styles, it just makes her look slightly more オバサン.

With you, I agree that “Moonlight Shadow” dates badly. Sad that Komuro did not write her a good song. I though “Appetite” is so much better.

  13. Patrick says:

In a way, I think Moonlight Shadow was meant to be very commercial in order to bring Akina back. I thought it was successful at its time although the single came out during the over exposed of Komuro time. I remembered a Japanese friend at time said she like Akina but she’s so tired of Komuro.

Appetite has a fun music arrangement and grows on me more as time goes by.

  14. Suzy Wrong says:

Where should I order it from? Which site’s cheapest? Which site’s most reliable?

  15. Kiki Chan says:

I am looking forward to this limited edition release, it’s a MUST BUY!!!

  16. JameZ says:

Tower Records Japan has it listed as the cheapest but after adding the shipping, HMV reigns! Help push her ranking up on HMV as well!

  17. MG says:

Wow, the tracklisting is actually quite peculiar. I could get the full VAMP material and almost complete SPOON material out of this! And it even has the Second Love duet with Takao Kisugi (hope it’s good)! Interesting that she didn’t bother including Ophelia and Trust Me (she hates them that much lol?). Shame that Tsuki no Hohoemi is still in it’s acoustic form here.

  18. MG says:

Blaah, the cover art is rather boring. The font doesn’t suit it.

  19. Jerry says:

    http://www.universal-music.co.jp/akina/

Yuk! That photo has been used to death. Well, it is a “90′s” compilation afterall, so I guess it’s only fitting that they have chosen a photo that was taken around that time. Still, that font?! They should have put more effort into it – it looks desperately like a bootleg.

  20. Jerry says:

It only just occurs to me that both “It’s Brand New Day” and “Stay In Love” were released in 2001, so how come they are included in this “90′s” compilation, eh??

  21. Danny says:

    *FAINTZ*

    someone give me CPR…

  22. Patrick says:

Jerry – Maybe they were recorded and written in the 90s but they were left over and released in 2001. :-)

    Happy V-DAY!
