Ending her drought of music awards with her win last year at レコード大賞 for 「艶華 – Enka -」 comes this new award for Akina at “The Japan Gold Disc Award”.
Akina won the ザ・ベスト･演歌/歌謡・アーティスト for 「艶華 – Enka -」, making it the first time Akina has won an award for the category of 演歌/歌謡. This award is given to the 演歌/歌謡 artiste that had the highest sales in that category and she shares this with Enka Prince 氷川 きよし. 明菜様、 お目でとうございます！
I wonder if Akina would be having a secret laugh with this award because I don’t think she sees herself as an 演歌/歌謡 artiste or will she be squirming? I wonder if Akina has an awards cabinet at home or where she places them.
For those of you who are unaware, Akina won the “Grand Prix Artist of the year” when this award was first introduced in 1987. It is like Akina returning one full circle and hopefully, these wins will spur Akina back to her creative best!
