Unsteady Love (Goodbye My Rehab Mix)

unsteadylove

how’s everyone’s CNY celebrations? i ate too much!! after some delay (mostly due to my eagerness to share the newer mixes we’ve done), here’s a remix of a really old but genki track with a pinch of Amy Winehouse’s bassline. enjoy!

マリオネット (Touch & Go Mix)

marionette2

spooky cover goes with spooky song from spooky album.

i did a cosmic video for something different to go with this chill-out remix, but this version is so crap after compression. you can view a high quality version on You Tube itself. =)

can anyone spot the nursery rhyme sampling besides Mariah Carey’s “Touch My Body” bassline? brownie points to you if you do!

Trust Me (Forever Mix)

trustme

Trust Me is an extremely moving song for me personally… perhaps it’s the climbing violins… or perhaps it’s cos the song was released during Akina’s most desolate period of her career. the single moved a dismal 5000 copies, and peaked at a poor 57. it also marked her last official/single release from GAUSS Entertainment (the album “Will” wasn’t really endorsed by her). the single didn’t have a proper cover. it was a stark black, with a gray label and simple white text. i remember picking up the single at Tower Records. plugged into it right away on my discman (yes! discman back in that era!)… and the notes and her beautiful delivery filled my ears, my soul, my whole being, when i was on the escalator… i loved it, but at the same time, i couldn’t help feeling a maudlin tide wash over me… will Akina ever stop singing? will she foresake her fans? who will fill my soul again?

i’m dedicating this remix to all the Akina fans (yes you) who’ve never forsaken her. and to Akina herself, who never stopped singing. Trust. you can’t buy that, right?

here you go, guys. LOVE YOU AND FOREVER, AKINA!!!

Feeling The Heat

sexandtheheat

hee hee. it’s official – i now like this song. i’m so psyched about this. fresh from the oven. so will get this posted before Unsteady Love!! ;)

not sure how many Sex And The City fans are there in the house, but i am a HUGE one. =) so it was a super treat when Akina opened her 2008 X’mas Dinner Show with “Labels and Love” (by Fergie of Black Eye Peas), and then lo and behold, she dived straight into The Heat!!!

i must ‘fess up that i HATED that song when it was released, it wasn’t particularly a strong track in my opinion. it being the first single release with Universal Japan, i had expected something with more oomph. i mean the song is ok, but i felt the tempo was a tad sluggish… listening to it, i kept waiting for explosions, but it just fizzled and fizzled and fizzled…. the loud bang didn’t quite appear. of course any lil pleasant aural experience that was left was completely massacred by that legendary big budgeted embarrassing music video bomb (both versions, thank you!). after that, this song was shoved into the dark corners of my Condemned Cupboard (okay but i know Auntie Suzy loves this track and has been on her replay for years!).

when i found out she was opening the DS with The Heat, i rolled my eyes more than Gillian Chung did when Edison Chen gave her… er, The Heat. but i must say, i was extremely perky when she first used the SATC OST as house music (when we were getting seated and digging into our fine French chi chi cuisine) and followed up with that aforementioned SATC Movie Theme Song Intro which led into The Heat very cleverly. omg, is Akina a fan of SATC herself!!? which is her favourite character? is it the same as mine – Miranda? does she identify herself with Carrie? in her 40s and still searching for elusive love?

anyway, in tribute to all SATC fans, i’ve been thinking alot about recapturing that kickass combo since we returned. we feel this is the strongest remix till date. we hope this will be a pleasant lil gift to all those who attended the DS, to relive those moments, and for those who missed it, hey, there’s always VAMP!!

here’s to getting Carried away! ;)

花よ踊れ (Krazy Jumbo Mix)

krazyjumbo1

i did so many versions of the cover art and ended up trashing all of them simply cos the illustration is so blah! but now that she’s got flower tights, we’re talking! lol. the cover reminds me of sakura sweets and endless boxes of omiyage.

renamed the remix to “Krazy Jumbo Mix” cos we reworked the original remix with an electro bassline infusion of “Krazy” by Pitbull ft Lil’Jon. the first cut was more samba/tribal. haha.

and for the first time, to mark the new year, we’re offering downloads of the hi-fi mp3 to the first 20 readers. go grab it before the slots get taken up! have fun!

HAPPY 2009!!

Hey guys, I’ve just returned from Tokyo, Akina’s birthplace, and spent the crossover into the new year on the plane, an hour away from Singapore actually. Cool! I’d like to wish everyone who visits VAMP, all Akina fans, and Akina herself, a fruitful new year, and may we continue to enjoy her good music, and look forward to an active year (Spring concert, at least 2 new releases?…and time to bring on a new single I say)!

Thank you for keeping the discussion on Akina alive. It helps to band the fans who’re peppered around the globe. =))
