The below comments are read from the recent release of the Complete Singles Collection notes:
As we all fans know, 赤い鳥逃げた is the 12 inch single released after ミ・アモレ, with different lyrics.
However, I guess not many of us may know that actually, when the lyricist 康珍 化 first received the melody from the composer 松岡直也, the initial lyrics composed was actually 赤い鳥逃げた instead of ミ・アモレ.
After reviewing the initial lyrics of 赤い鳥逃げた, 康珍 化 felt that the lyrics was quite ‘weak’ for a single release. Hence, he re-wrote the lyrics based on the stage of the Carnival in Rio (Brazil) – thus the birth to the lyrics of ミ・アモレ.
Quite an interesting discovery for me, as a big fan of ミ・アモレ〜! =)

It’s kinda interesting how a foreigner like myself can find myself agreeing with the notion of ‘weak’ lyrics for 赤い鳥逃げた even though I barely understand anything. It still sounds as awkward as ever compared to ミ・アモレ.
Thanks, Eugin. Yes, I’d heard about that story before but wasn’t sure if it was just hearsay. So 康珍 化 is a guy afterall? I always thought it was a woman as his lyrics in general are somewhat quite feminine. And yes, the lyrics of 赤い鳥逃げた sound awkward – it was as though he was trying to cram as many words into each line as possible. LOL
you are welcome, Jerry ! 康珍化 is a guy afterall. Second-gen of Korean living in Japan. I agree with you that the lyrics for 赤い鳥逃げた does sound a bit awkward. ミ・アモレ sings about a story of Carnival in Rio which paints many images. However, 赤い鳥逃げた sings generally about love…
Yes, this was covered in the Japanese Wikipaedia entry for the song, so I knew about it as well. I am a little surprised you didn’t, or I would have told you already. Anyway, never too late to put a smile on your face.
赤い鳥逃げた is indeed not as catchy and I wonder what would have happened if she just released it. I guess we will never know. It’s unique that she released a 12″ version of a single with different lyrics and then another extended version of the song in the album. Great song!
i think given her popularity back then anything she released would have sold like hot cakes.
Thank you for sharing this. I did not know until now. Hope to hear more about other single or songs as well.
Thanks!!!
I certainly agree that ミ・アモレ has a much stronger feel than 赤い鳥逃げた !
They were right in rewriting it. And us fans are fortunate enough to have both versions to listen to! Even though it’s the same melody, each brings me a different mood and feeling.
