Shojo A (Rainbow Dance Mix)

it’s kind of a lull period now after the neverending excitement for a couple of months. so i thought of sharing this super “Ah Beng” dance mix of Shojo A. i picked up this non-stop dance CD in Ginza (when Kenji was busy doing his rounds at UNIQLO). it’s a double-disc album with alot of big hits from the retro era (including Judy Ong, Jamez!) and Shojo A resides on Disc 2. enjoy!

Akina fanboy since 14. Still undecided which are his top ten favourite Akina tracks as it's mission impossible. Digs "Everlasting Love" a whole lot more than the average Akina fan.

  1. it’s always risky business to touch Classics. i know there will be those who irk at the thought of murdering Akina’s good work. personally, i always welcome all forms of interpretations of Akina’s work. =)

  2. Thanks, DannyBunny,

I think the beat!!! And this refresh me of 片瀬那奈’s cover of ミ・アモーレ~

If it could be an original dance mix of Akina’s. That would be great!

  3. Dear Bunny, thanks for sharing this version of Shojo A. By the way, is the song you mentioned about Judy Ong is 魅 serarete? I really like that song too. How’s the mix?

  4. Hi Porky,

Unfortunately, Judy had only one hit in Japan – 魅せられて。What distinguished her from the other Asian singers who broke into the Japanese market is not only that she is multi-talented, but also that she is:

    (a) the only million seller (123.5 万枚)

    (b) the only one to feature in Top 10 Year End Sales (No. 2 overall in 1979)

    (c) the only one that won レコード大賞 (though Teresa fans will dispute that Teresa won 有線大賞 for 3 consecutive years) but レコード大賞 was then the most prestigious award。

    (d) the third and currently latest Chinese singer (after 欧陽菲菲 & アグネス・チャン – Agnes Chan) to score an Oricon No. 1 hit. Sadly Teresa’s singles pole position was No. 6 for both つぐない and 時の流れに身をまかせ.

Personally, my other favourite is 麗華の夢 that she performed at the 1980 紅白. Sadly, the song did not even chart in the Top 100 but according to a blog mate who loves Judy, he said that NHK gave her a spot again the next year because she gave up the chance to play a leading role in Shogun because she wanted to perform 魅せられて at紅白.

  5. Thanks for sharing this.

It’s interesting to hear different version of the song. However, I must say that it’s not very good. It sounds very generic and lifeless, which is a killer for dance mix.

For Akina’s cover, I love her second love duet. I am always amazed to hear the original song writers sing their own songs.
