Akina fanboy since 14. Still undecided which are his top ten favourite Akina tracks as it's mission impossible. Digs "Everlasting Love" a whole lot more than the average Akina fan.

  1. It’s rumoured that the new song and the 3 re-recorded songs are from パチンコ歌姫伝説 2. Let’s see if it’s true.

  2. Was the first one even a hit, I wonder? I remember looking for it for hours when I was in Tokyo last August.

  3. I believe it was a relative hit. I doubt the validity of the claim because other than 難破船, she did not have a clear image for the other two songs, and "Solitude" is definitely not one of her more memorable hits. I think it is more infamous.

I just read yesterday from a blog that "Solitude" was meant to be an album song, but since Akina wanted to prove that she can basically plug any song and make it a hit like Momoe (?!), she chose "Solitude". Hmmm … Not all of Momoe’s songs are that big hits, so it sounds a little silly. She has a few lame songs like "Solitude" during her peak. Case in point: 初恋草纸 and 赤い絆. Definitely "Solitude" material.

If I were to create a version II, I would choose "Tango Noir", "難破船", "Tattoo", "Al-Mauj", "Fin". Wait, I can choose 5 more … "Kinku", "Blonde", "I Missed "The Shock", "Sand Beige" and possibly "Meu Amore" or "Southern Wind". These are all possibly stronger than "Kisei" or "Solitude" in terms of impressions in the minds of the, I stress "general public".

  4. Jamez – Solitude is not that bad. I like it, not love it. I do think that Akina truely love this song because she sang it many many times in the concert.

I just got Masaharu Fukuyama’s golden hits cd, which has a cover version of Kazarijanainoyo Namida. The arrangment of the song is really great and gives a fresh sound to the song. I really love it and recommend everyone to find it.

  5. I know. But "AGAIN" is a much better song and so is "Blue Ocean". She could have used "Blue Ocean" since it lost in the battle with "Sand Beige".

She did make the right decision by going with "Desire" though because "LA BOHEME" was meant to be the A side. I love "LA BOHEME" too but I didn’t want to miss ever seeing Akina breaking all the "kimono rules".

  6. AGAIN is indeed a great song.

I did not know that LA BOHEME was meant to be the A side. It’s a strong song and that single is truely fantastic.

  7. I guess I’m a member of the minority, because I also like Solitude. 🙂 I’m definitely curious to hear the updated version.

    Looking forward to the release!

  8. My sentiments for Solitude has been well documented on this site. LOL. So i am quite interested in listening to an updated version. hopefully i’ll like it this time. i’m anticipating her Kisei renewal with trepidation. it’s such a great song chances are riding high that it’ll be ruined. fingers crossed.

the only remake (of her own songs) which i love is Shojo A from Double Decade. that was fun!

  9. I agree with Danny and also the new version of 予感, which I think is beautiful.

Like many fans, I believe it will be the "I Hope So" concert version of "Solitude" which is a more mature song.

It was indeed another mature piece but if we placed it in the Crimson album, which is a ballad album, would "Solitude" stand out? If it was in "D404ME" or "不思議", would you go "Wow! That was a really good song. She should have made that an album cut?" Unlike Miho’s "You’re My Only Shining Star", I think it is rather unlikely. It is more in line with Miho’s ”これからのI Love You" which is also an album cut and when I realised that, I wondered why?

I don’t hate it but if compared relative to the vast array of songs released by Akina and other singers at that time, I have to admit that it was a rather weak "single" choice.

  10. I agree that "Solitude" wasn’t among Akina’s strongest single selections when compared to other songs.

That said, I still find the song’s style and Akina’s vocals appealing. I find myself listening to it often enough. I imagine I will like the renewal too.

Also, as you pointed out, the single featured "AGAIN" as the B-should-have-been-A-side-song, so on the whole, I think it was far from being a dud. 🙂

Jamez, I can’t see "Solitude" being a cut on "D404ME," "Crimson," or "Fushigi," either. Maybe on "Bitter and Sweet" though.

  11. It’s funny that James should mention "Solitude" being a track on D404ME – the track "Pierce" from that album is actually written by the same guy.

  12. Ha! Ha! CJ, I have to agree it wasn’t a dud. I love the cover too. One big saving grace for the single.

Still, would you pick Solitude as the outstanding track from "Bitter and Sweet"?

Like you, it has grown on me over the years and I hope it will be Shojo A Part II, as in my second fave remix.

  13. James, thanks for the responses, I understand what you meant now. At first, I took your comments to mean you thought that Solitude was a really awful song.

Compared to you all, I would say I am more of a "casual" fan of Akina. I am familiar with Akina mostly for her 1980s songs. I spent some time in Japan in the mid-1980s. Actually, Solitude was the song that introduced me to Akina. I haven’t kept up with Akina’s career for the past decade or more, so I don’t know her newer works.

I happened to come across your site and was 1) surprised to find out that Akina is still active, and 2) impressed by your dedication as fans. I’m glad to know that Akina is still going strong after all these years. I think you all have done a great job on this site. Keep up the good work. I will be sure to visit the site from time to time.

  14. Wow! There you go … someone who became an Akina fan because of "Solitude".

Welcome to VAMP, RF and thank you for your kind comments. We’d certainly love to hear from you more often.
