I Love It!

Presenting … the two jackets for 「艶華-Enka-」 and I have to say I love both of them, especially the normal cover. It is definitely 妖艶!

How cunning of her to set the prettier cover for the "normal" version so that we are all tempted to buy all three. I am now curious to see what Version B looks like, because there is meant to be 3 different covers. This is the full report from Sanspo:

It does look like a "foreigner’s interpretation of Enka" which is the image concept for the jackets. I think it is great that Akina is finally showing her face again on the covers and hopefully, there will be plenty more in the CD booklets. There is a reference made about a Hollywood movie but my Japanese isn’t so great and I don’t want to misinterpret, so maybe someone else can do so.

 What does everyone think?

Akina fanboy since 14. Still undecided which are his top ten favourite Akina tracks as it's mission impossible. Digs "Everlasting Love" a whole lot more than the average Akina fan.

  1. I am sure they can serve as inspiration for your new look which you will carry off well. Maybe you can preview them here one day. I am sure many of us will be looking forward to that.

  2. OMG! Truly hard to tell that it’s really her! It would be such a shame if these kind of covers wouldn’t get the chance to grace the Oricon top 10! Really hoping B-edition would be something similar to the normal edition since I want the bonus track the most. This does still kinda leave me wondering whether she’s afraid of being in front the camera after getting old because of the strong makeup which might have made her more comfortable doing it. Though I can see it as a continuation to Empress photoshoots as well.

  3. what an amazing way to start off my day here! when i woke up and saw Jamez’ sms (thanks for that!) saying "she’s back!" i knew it had to be something really special and had my expectations heightened. when the images loaded, i was still blown away, reminescent of the way she surprised us cover after cover in her heydays. none of her works recently created such impact… i mean Uta Hime Zero Album was a poor DI job and rather cheesy in my opinion… Resonancia had a brilliant concept but i still can’t get over the guys’ hands cupping her fake photoshopped breasts… Empress was lavish but it was more a case of heaving a relief when expectations were met… and then there were the rehashes of photos from her vault. BUT THIS!!!! this is on a totally different level. it’s an up-to-date interpretation which will show the other nymphets who’s the Queen of Jpop. the concept and covers are oozing Akina from every single pixel.

i love all the covers. i think she looks a bit like Naoko Kawai in the red ones. strangely, i felt the same when i saw Unbalance+Balance’s cover back then. i like the fact that it doesn’t look like her and that it’s radically different. based on the shock and awe of the imagery itself, people will go WHO IS THIS? and when they realise it’s Akina, they will go WOW!! SHE’S BACK!! MUST BUY!! that chain of thoughts will be good for sales.

what’s left is the interpretation of the songs themselves. i hope it lives up to my now extremely high expectations now.

rooting for you, Akina. and i’m so happy for us fans!! i wanna cry!! so excited. man, the next couple of weeks will be sucha frenzy!!

  4. Oh wow, the jacket B has my favorite version after all, yay! Now if only they would release some preview listens at her website. I’m so worried about her voice.

  5. I must add another WOW into this topic. This is a fantastic cover.

Could you anyone please kindly explain the difference between three versions?

Danny – I think the triangle chin in this picture might remind you of Naoko Kawai. It really doesn’t look like Akina. The mouth doesn’t look like her mouth. I wonder if we will find out more about these pictures. As a friend of Akina for a long long time, I must say that I recognize Akina when I see but not this time and that makes me wonder.

  6. Ooh, she sounds rather good! Just not that fond of the enka-like high-pitches but maybe I’ll grow to like them. No more previews? Waaah….

  7. Woa!! the promo snippet sure sounds dramatic, i am so excited now and wouldn’t mind buying the album just based on this song.

By the way do you guys think that Akina actually put on some weight?

  8. Hi MG, the tune you just listened to is quite a typical emotionally-charged Oriental tune. Does it sound some what odd to you? will be interesting to know.

  9. Hi Johnny, I don’t really listen to enka but I’ve heard bits here and there so I was kinda loosely familiar with the vibrating high-pitches but I’m not exactly in love with the style but that might be just because I’m not that used to it. Maybe Akina will convert me into liking it.

The song seems to be growing on me already since I think I’m already on my 10th repeat of the preview haha. Sounds promising!

  10. I can understand that as you are from Finland, will be good to hear some Finnish folk songs someday.

  11. WOWWWWW!!!!!!!!!!! I am so excited!!!!! When I saw the chain of comments, I knew there must be something exciting. I love the music arrangement and more importantly her voice! Her voice actually seems recovered a lot and sounds pretty good. Her emotions just built up and blended so well with enka. Akina is truly the Utaheme of the 20th and 21st century! Ganbate Akina!!!
