  1. After checking out those songs yesterday I feel quite intrigued about this new retro thing she’s doing. The album sounds quite varied. Wonder if it will have a somewhat similar brass instrument style as with D.D. because of Yoichi Murata’s trombone background.

But I’m a bit hesitant of Folk Song Vol. 2 as I don’t think I’ve managed to listen through Vol. 1 more than twice. I hope it would be more than a mere continuation to Vol. 1.

Oooh, finally an original album!! But so late from her usual schdedule? Should I feel really excited about the album because there’s no single prior to it so maybe she feels so confident about it as a whole that a single wouldn’t do it justice? Or has she just given up on the tradition because of sales? 😛

Wasn’t she supposed to tour this summer? It seems she’ll now be doing an autumn tour then?

What on earth is that DVD?

  2. Mood Kayou is a rather matured genre, and to me, the songs tend to veer towards blues and a rather sexy style. Yoichi mentioned that they treated each song as an original, so it would be interesting to see how they would be able to create a “new world” for Akina.

As for Folk Collection II, I read somewhere that they are currently reviewing song selection, which I think seems rather late or rushed, but I have an idea it is going to be different from the first. The first was titled “Sentimental Chapter”, so I believe she may be going for a rockier version or uptempo, I should say for this Collection II. I just hope it’s not a stripped down version of the songs again. Bring back Sen Akira for Collection II!!

As for the single preceding album release, it just means that she will have no choice but to promote, and we know how much she hates that. Moreover, single sales are now so dismal that sometimes I prefer that she just releases the album, and keep the stats, and not stoop any lower. That is unless, she has a great song to cut as a single, like one written by Inoue Yosui, which would cause a stir. Otherwise, I’d rather prefer the album. She should fight to appear on NHK’s Songs program, and plug all these releases.

Lastly, the DVD … why should I start. It’s a collection of her promotional videos, some of which the advertising boasts, has been a collector’s item because of the rarity, but I really don’t know if it is something to get really excited about. Do I really want to see “The Heat” again? I have Apasionado collecting dust in the corner.

Moreover, priced at 42,000 yen, I want to see what’s in it first before I get any excitement. As for concerts, we can dream on … can’t we?

  3. HMW only has ‘undecided’ on the pre-order. Thanks for informing us this exciting news. I think fans like me or Kiki Chan will have to eat peanut butter and jelly sandwich for the rest of the summer in order to buy the 3 CD and possibly DVD.

  4. James, the DVD is only priced at 4,200 yen, not 42,000. Still, we should proceed with caution – a lot of the Universal promo vids were already featured on the bonus DVD that came with version A of “Enka”, and a couple more can be found on the 4-disc version of “90’s Best”. Maybe it will contain yet another version of “The Heat”!? LOL

  5. Hi Jerry,

Thank you for the correction, but it could have been my unconscious attempt to dissuade us from buying. 😉

I totally agree, but I believe UJ is going to milk it all the way from Everlasting Love. That’s my hunch. They also mentioned TV promotion, so I don’t know if they are going to add all the promotional work she did at HMV. Did someone tape that?

Otherwise, no more “The Heat”!!! Home version (Rated R for Akina waxing her floorboards) or not, I do not want to see any version, and that includes the original.

  6. Benjamin,

The sale of peanut butter is going to skyrocket. You are not alone. Let’s start “Feed Akina fans” campaign. Who knows, Akina might join too. God knows she needs the calories.

    1. Yes, I am with you JameZ and Benjamin on this one. Thank goodness I like peanut butter and jelly sandwich, but having it all summer may still be a stretch, but for Akina Chan, I will do it! Ganbatte Akina Chan!

  7. We Honkees eat Peanut Butter and Jelly ‘separately’. So I would like to amend that I will have Peanut Butter OR Jelly Sandwich. But Kiki San can spread both together. So I think I will save more money, i.e. Monday – Peanut Butter (crunchy or not are both fine) and Tuesday – Jelly (Apricot or Orange)…etc.

  8. DVD Song List … disgustingly disappointing …

    1.原始、女は太陽だった
    2.花よ踊れ
    3.MOONLIGHT SHADOW
    4.チャイナタウン
    5.The Heat
    6.いい日旅立ち
    7.missed U
    8.あの夏の日
    9.Days
    10.TV-SPOT映像

  9. At least if they had recorded some making-of material and added that to this release then this might’ve been worth purchasing… But then again, there probably wouldn’t be much to document, though it would be interesting to see some planning meetings for these works of art. I mean, how long does it take for them to go and decide: “Oh Akina should walk down this hallway and it’ll be in slow motion, woow!” It’s really sad that her cover album recording videos make better music videos than the “proper” ones.

  10. Wow! This is exciting. With this economy, Akina take the chance to really test her true fan. It’s a good news no matter what. I’m excited! Thanks for giving us this news.

  11. James, the DVD is only priced at 4,200 yen, not 42,000. Still, we should proceed with caution – a lot of the Universal promo vids were already featured on the bonus DVD that came with version A of "Enka", and a couple more can be found on the 4-disc version of "90’s Best". Maybe it will contain yet another version of "The Heat"!? LOL
